    1. Shrus,

Most beer yeasts work best at 17 - 20 C. But you can ferment your beer at room temperatures in winter. In summer the temperature is too high in India.
You can still make good beer, but it the beer made at the correct temperature tastes better.
      Same for bottle conditioning.

If you intend to do it without a temperature controlled fridge, make sure you find a dark cool corner in the house to keep the fermenter.
You can cover your fermenter with a wet towel.

  4. And you have explain about Belgian wit bier ingredients in which u have added flaked wheat means just wheat or like crushed wheat?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Flaked wheat in the Belgian Wit is just simple wheat from the store. Crush it in a mixer to make approx 3 - 4 pieces of each grain. Basically a coarse crush. Don't make very fine powder.

  5. What is son of chiller and how can we get it or build or buy it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Search the internet for "Son of a chiller" to get the exact design and instructions on building it.
I built it using a large thermocol Ice box from local market, a CPU fan, a temperature controller and a power supply.

The only problem is that we need to keep putting ice into it every 2 days.

After a few brews I gave it away, and invested in a second hand fridge. The fridge is more convenient.

    1. Everything is available in various shops in Ravivar peth in Pune.
It should cost you around 4.5K including the temperature controller ( which is around 2K itself ).
So if you skip the temp controller, it should not exceed 2K.
Alternatively I can help you with all the equipment, I may have some spare stuff with me. Send me an email - sapanmaniyar@gmail.com if you want the equipment from me.
I will update the blog with addresses of shops soon.

    1. I will update the shop addresses soon. Meanwhile here are quick pointers -

For all the lab equipment like hydrometer , thermometer , etc go to Kumar scientific.
Precision scale and weight scale ( kitchen scale ) are available on ebay.in for around Rs 300 each.
Fermenter is just a water container and you will find in any general store ( Kirarna store )
Temperature controller can be found at Bombay Electricals.
      Malt / Hops / Yeast can be bought online at - brewof.com / diybrew.in
Grain bag can be made at home, just use a thin nylon saree / dupatta.

      Google for exact addresses.

Again mail me on sapanmaniyar@gmail.com and I can send you my phone number. I have the equipment in spare if you don't want to travel all that far.

  10. hi,

do you have recipe of budwiser and kingfisher lager beer? if yes. please share the same and also mention at what temp it should ferment.

    1. Hi Jiva,
We don't have recipes for budwiser and Kingfisher, because they have their own secret recipes.
They are lagers and take a long time to ferment.
Its not worth taking so much effort of brew that "Yellow Fizzy stuff ..".
Once you have tasted real good beers, you will never want to drink the yellow fizzy stuff, even for free :)

  11. Hi Jiva,

As luck would have it, here's a recipe for those beers after a discussion with some knowledgeable people:

Step 1: Drink lots of craft beer
Step 2: Pee in a bottle
    Step 3: Cap and shake
Step 4: Serve chilled in a frosted glass to mask the taste

    Hope this helps!
